When to upgrade your computer monitor
This is a very simple question to answer. The answer is: When you want to.
But I will elaborate on this a bit so you can understand why it is true. If your monitor is not causing you any issues, there is no reason to upgrade. However, if it is a CRT (the older style monitors) taking up too much space on your desk, you might want to consider getting a flat screen (LCD). Also, if the monitor is beginning to get a bit fuzzy, you will want to upgrade right away as this could degrade the quality of your eyesight.
I think the better question to answer here is this: “When I do want to upgrade Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsWill computers ever command humanity?
Will computers ever command humanity? This is a very interesting question. I believe the fear of this will actually happen one day has indeed inspired authors and screenwriters to create stories where humans have to bow to computers and call them masters. To know if computers will be eventually be masters we need to know what computers at present can do and what it may be able to do in the future based on their current capacity. A present, we know that computers can process data and interpret it for humans to see. Nowadays, we can do a lot with computers including playing sophisticated 3D games, listening to music, browsing the Internet, banking, and writing articles. Read the rest of this entry »

No CommentsThe conversion to digital TV from analog TV
When you know absolutely nothing about something, you tend to fall back on what’s familiar. I kept telling myself, “It’s just a TV.” I grew up with one. Granted, the first was black and white, only had three channels and you had to move your entire body in order to turn it on and off. We eventually upgraded to color, and a few years later, the remote control was introduced. Then cable was born, and a few hundred more channels appeared overnight, but what you viewed them on was still just a TV.
Knowing that everyone on the planet would be watching digital, if not high definition (HD) TV by February 2009, we finally made the decision to go ahead Read the rest of this entry »
How to choose the right computer monitor
LCDs vs. CRTs
Power Usage and Size
A computer monitor displays the visual output from the computer as it is produced by the video card. When deciding what type of monitor will best suit your application needs it makes sense to look at size and power usage. LCD monitors have become the popular choice of many people, since they use half the power wattage of a CRT monitor, produce less heat, and take up less space. With rising power prices, these savings add up substantially over time. If reserving space on a crowded desk is important an LCD monitor can be mounted on a wall or arm mount to re-establish usable work space.

No CommentsWhy computers are frustrating – Part 1
Computers can be really frustrating at times and we might even feel like breaking down the computer. But computers are not humans; they are machines which work the way you want them do.
Computers are frustrating because you don’t treat them nicely. Yes, I said they are machines, but you need to treat machines nicely if you don’t want to be frustrated. A car requires oil, a carpet requires cleaning, and similarly computer requires care and removal of viruses. You should use anti-spyware software, anti-viruses and regulary check the computer and take good care of it.
Make sure you also clean the computer fan located behind the CPU. If dirt clogs into this area, your computer can become paralysed and painfully slow. Read the rest of this entry »

No CommentsPros and cons of HDTV – Part 1
There are many pros and cons to HDTV.
Pros
The pros of HDTV are reasonably obvious. HDTV offers a much higher screen quality than standard definition (SD) television. Also, since most broadcasting stations are now focussing on hdtv transmissions, these are often stronger than the sd transmissions. This means that you can get not only better quality, but also far better reception with HDTV than with normal television stations.
Cons
The main disadvantage of HDTV is that it is far more expensive than standard definition television. With a hdtv set top box up to around US $200 and a good hdtv topping two grand, hdtvs are far more expensive than your standard tv.
Also, when recording hdtv, Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsOverheating as a cause of computer crashes – Part 1
Overheating is a major factor in computer crashes. Many individuals assume that when their computer crashes, that it is due to a virus, a part failing, or simply due to the Operating System itself. While some of these may be true, it is more often than not, a symptom of overheating.
A crash due to overheating can be characterized by the entire computer system being unresponsive or, “locked up.” This generally results in the user having to manually restart the computer, and in some cases, having to unplug the computer from its power source. After restarting, the computer may seem to operate normally for a time, but eventually it suffers the same crash symptom, regardless of which program the user is Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsHDTV buying guide – Part 2
You don’t have to camp out outside of your favorite electronics store at 4:00am the day after Thanksgiving to get a great deal on a HDTV. If you do your research, you can get a great model at a nice price. A good place to begin would be to figure out what size you need for the room. Size does matter! Also, decide which features are a must. Some models come with built in DVD players, which are awesome if you are going to hang it on the wall using a mounting bracket, this minimizes the amount of equipment you have piled around it so you can achieve a clutter free look.
